Visit from a friend

Well today my open house was a failure but I got a visit from a friend with a very nice E30 vert :) My GF is now 100% convinced she wants one.. so my next year big project is coming...!! this fall / winter I will try to finish my SC setup on my car... by the looks of it am not moving this year!! lol...

2 quick pics of Ray's (TWIN) E30 vert

Car looks even better live...

Thanks for the visit :)

been too busy to progress on my charger with work and the house but I should be able to put a good few hours on it next week...

tack welding bracket and belt mecanism done

Last night I finished the most important job, tack welding the mount to make sure the belt is aligned 100% like you can see here....

measurement is right on..

Tack welds are done now the reinforcement triangles will be welded this weekend hopefully... then I will prime and paint the mount to protect from rust

Looks like with the adjustement studs I made I will be able to really tighten the belt and wont need a tensioner since I got the belt running by itself with the crank

Project is almost ready for test fit in my engine bay I should not have any surprises....lol... but there always is... we will see

more to come...

more pics...

My underhood in it's NA style... carefull measurements have been done from engine and mock up engine with the SC mounted and everything looks good for me to swap everything over on a weekend kind of thing...(hope anyways..) there are always show stoppers the biggest one here is the brake booster but it should clear properly

checking again alignement with timing belt... already working on getting the proper size belt which will be a 5PK985 and Im going to go with a automatic tensioner

Pics of my miller maf PSYK

alignement and the area I reserved for the tensioner

Did I say how involved this is....quite the project but am loving every minute its going to be a blast to drive as a DD...

more tack welding

Today I did some more tack welding on the SC mount...

Here am just looking at the position where the belt tensioner is going to go...

The belt is just a mockup (old timing belt from my M20)

Here you can see the SC mount tack welded (every post is going to get 90degree triangles for stiffness)

The SC 3.5" outlet and the built in bypass valve not sure if I will be using the SC nozzle brace yet

Stay tuned lots more to come....

gauges installed and more SC work

Supercharger braquet in the works....I wont go in depth I will just let the pics talk..

my 50$ table for welding... it will all make sense soon how I will assemble the SC mount

Here is a first shot of the mounting plate...lots of work still but getting there... spacers and strong 12.9 cap screws are going to be used here....M8x1.25 and M10x1.25 to be exact

Alternator relocated down to where PS used to be...I sourced a longer Vbelt

Here is a shot of my Innovate wideband installed, boost and temp
I will be using the temp to monitor temps after intercooler, also reading vaccum on my car looks like the motor is in good shape; needle is steady and I see 20in on idle and 25-26 on deceleration which is spot on,
My wideband is showing a slight rich tip in but really the tune from Miller looks pretty good actually at WOT am at 13.8-14.2

.I know I know its a big tach but my stock tach doesnt work and am not using the shift light or anything else just a cheap tach that I will eventually replaced good for now.

Lots more to come... more metal cuting/welding should have the SC mounted on the spare engine soon.... did I say how much work this is!! Wow! but I want to do it right the mounts are going to be extremely solid.

Stay tuned.....

pulley installed and C.V tech in Gatineau

Its been a while been busy with a few things around the house of course never stops....

Also my diff started leaking from the input seal so another trip to BMW new seal, shield...etc... started reading on how to install and decided to leaved it in the hands of the pro's well I called CV tech in Gatineau to see if they would work on a bmw diff , Chris the guy that rebuilt my Axles told me he never done it before but he would look at it and see if he could do it to my surprise DONE! did his research and got to it, I knew Chris was good but now am really impressed.... so impressed that.....

I said to myself.....hmmm ..maybe I will bring him my modular pulley to see if he can press in the hub and install my pulley.... well holy crap he not only installed the hub but also machined the interior of the 2.6" pulley to fit around the neck of the blower... Chris is one talented dude. Next project for him building a 1 piece Driveshaft for my E30 and hes up to the task!! cant wait...

Did some work on the SC install relocated the alternator with some mockup brakets just need to make them out of heavy gauge steel and get a longer vbelt. So this part is almost done.

Just sat the SC so everybody could see the orientation it will have once I build the brakets for it...

one more shot of the M62 blower with its new pulley. With the modular setup I can change the pulley size in 5 seconds :) also received the tensioner just not in the pic...

Let the good times roll!! :)

mock up started

Well I started the mockup design with cardboard just to see how things would fit. Then I will transfer to MDF board and then get it made in Mildsteel plate with spacers. Alternator relocation

Base plate will also use spacers.. and the tensionner braket

shot from the front...

more coming soon.... I have to admit its very very involved but its a LOT of fun...

later..

pulley received

Today I received my M50 crank pulley and it fits like a glove on the M20 :)

10$ from bavarian recyclers looks like new.

Removed the alternator and will move it on the back (in place of the A/C which I got rid of dont need it )

Also modular pulley is on the way from ZZP I ordered a 2.6" and a 3" idler pulley as well should be good for 5-8 PSI.

Got a pipe and coupler ready that will fit but first thing is first start working on the brakets to mount alternator in the back and holding brackets for the blower.

later... baby steps...baby steps...

Supercharged

After planning and researching what SC I would use I went back to my roots no pun intended and selected a 5th gen M62 Eaton SC from a 2005 Cobalt SS to take care of the low end :) Its size and power potential is right on for the 2.5-2.7L. Very nice unit with the bypass valve integrated.

Well yesterday I got lucky and found one very very low mileage for very cheap with the bypass valve included.

Plan is to fabricate the SC holder on the stand by measuring everything and without disrupting anything so far it looks really good. I measured it on the stand and engine bay.

On the way is the used again very cheap M50 engine crank pulley (5 rib system). Using a 2:1 ratio the crank pulley being 4 inch 7/8 with a 2.6 inch pulley (modular system from ZZPERFORMANCE.com) will give me a good non intercooled 6-8 PSI The cooler will be on the turbo side then going into the inlet of the SC for a twincharge setup.

The car is running really well... took it up to 6K today and its making some good power and torque. Once I get my gauge holder I will start tuning with my innovate wideband.

Later.....

injectors and gauges received

Slowly gathering parts for my turbo build...(I may go roots type Supercharger first)

- Innovate wideband received
- boost and water gauges

- 30lb Bosch injectors

Saturday, June 18, 2011

Well, here goes the second part (the exciting part) of my build.

Well, here goes the second part (the exciting part) of my build.

The turbo build. I will be updating as I purchase parts ....plan is to build slowly summer/fall/winter to get it ready for drag racing next summer.

1) collect/buy parts/ aquire turbo bin file for war chip / Blue print turbo assembly /exhaust setup
2) build strocker 2.7L M20 / arp head studs / o-ring block
3) install / build war chip tune , dyno build low boost file and high boost file

so first thing I bought today (very important as I will be tuning my na M20 right now anyways):

Innovate MTX-L Wideband Air/Fuel Gauge Kit 3844 UEGO
